A dark cloud is hovering over Actor Bill Murray after a hacker escaped with 119.2 ETH, or about $185,000, collected in a fundraiser through NFT, which offered the chance to have a beer with a celebrity as a result of the raffle.

Hackers Got It

According to on-chain data from Etherscan and Murray's team, the hackers gained access to Murray's personal wallet during the sale. At around 7:00 pm when the sale was completed, the hackers emptied the wallet before the sale closed.

Organized by The Shack in partnership with Coinbase's NFT world, the auction was part of the Bill Murray 1000″ collection, which aims to give fans a blockchain experience by dining with the famous actor.

Of the 1,000 NFTs in the collection, only 82 have been sold so far (these NFTs are a prerequisite for the 1/1 dating lottery) and are currently waiting for buyers for 11 ETH, or almost $17,000, on Coinbase's (COIN) market, the cheapest.

Hackers Transfer Funds to Binance Linked Addresses

While hackers were using fake identities to transfer funds to a wallet address linked to crypto exchange Binance and Unionchain.ai, a security team from NFT consulting firm Project Venkman stepped in to protect the actor's NFTs, including Damien Hirst NFT, two CryptoPunks, Pudgy Penguin, He protected expensive JPEGs such as Cool Cat and many Flower Girls.

The hacker also reportedly attempted to steal 800 NFTs that were in the actor's collection and stored in his personal account, but when the security team was alerted to fraudulent activity, he quickly ran a script to stop the transfer.

Police Report Kept to Catch Thieves

Six NFT collectors participated in the raffle process to dine with the actor, and the process received 60 bids. Brant Boersma, a Coinbase user, surpassed them all to win a rendezvous with the famous actor, where he will also appear in a portrait. It is unclear whether the meeting with the theft of funds will still occur. A police report was prepared. Chainalysis works with law enforcement to track down and arrest criminals.
