Vitalik Buterin Draws Attention to 2 Altcoins: Next...!
Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin has suggested that 2 blockchain protocols that operate on a Proof-of-Work (PoW) mechanism may switch to a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) system in the near future.
Dogecoin (DOGE) and Zcash (ZEC) are Next!
Vitalik Buterin also spoke about Merge during the 2022 Mainnet blockchain event and made important statements about Surge, the next big step in Ethereum's development. Ethereum made history on September 15 by becoming the first large-scale blockchain protocol to successfully transition from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake. While the Ethereum Foundation claims a 99.9% reduction in energy consumption, the results of this significant change are yet to be seen in terms of network security, scalability and usage. When asked at the Mainnet event if all PoW networks should follow Ethereum's example, Vitalik Buterin pointed to 2 altcoin projects.
Buterin believes that Dogecoin (DOGE) and Zcash (ZEC) could be the next altcoins to embrace the new system. Interestingly, the developers of both Dogecoin and Zcash have previously made statements regarding the transition to PoS. Zcash reviewed the possible pros and cons of this step in mid-2022. As the Merge hype died down, Buterin outlined the next chapter of Ethereum's roadmap, Surge. Surge will not be a single event like Merge as it will "happen in phases," the executive said.
'Surge' Coming on Ethereum!
This is not Buterin's first invitation for Zcash to move to POS. Buterin said the same thing in 2018. Project leader Zooko stressed that he was waiting for Ethereum to move to this system first to see what went wrong during the critical transition period. Earlier this year, Vitalik was reportedly working with the Dogecoin Foundation to transition the meme coin from PoW to PoS. However, there is no exact date for when the transition will take place.
